The Widetrack Chronicles 16: Celebration

Chapter 16: Celebration

"Life is too short not to create something with every breath we draw."
-Maynard James Keenan

As February comes to a close, it suddenly hits me that I will be turning another year older in a few short weeks... Personally speaking, I'm not one for putting much focus on my birthday, (maybe if I just ignore it, the time won't pass so quickly! lol), but with the work we've been putting in towards getting the new album finished and released, I thought this year it might be a good opportunity to celebrate the fact that Widetrack still lives...

As previously written, I have resolved to find a way to continue writing, recording and performing original music, however difficult it may sometimes be to sustain... At this stage in my life, it's not so simple as just deciding to do it... Sweating out a living as an independent musician means I give lessons, play cover band gigs, freelance, work side jobs, etc., etc... Original music is more a labor of love, and therefore, finding the time, money, connections and resources to keep it going is a constant challenge...

But any time I am faced with the demons of "Why even bother? This is just too damn difficult..." that most artists, musicians, actors, entrepreneurs, business owners, etc. have faced, I always come back to the same bottom-line realization:

I would always look back and regret not leaving behind as much music as I can possibly make while it still lives and burns inside of me...

And so, this March 24th, on my birthday, we will be playing our first house concert... It will be held in Davisburg, Michigan at Brian Burleson's residence (limited seating, invitations to come), and we will be broadcasting it on Facebook Live...

I will be joined by Brian on lead guitar, and my son, Zachary, will be playing his first-ever gig, as bassist...

I can't imagine a better way to begin another year!

Anyway, I'd like to hear from you... What is it that you want to do?

Imagine the end has come... Looking back on your life...

What, do you imagine, will bring you peace in knowing you've accomplished?

It seems to me that all any of us really wants is to be able to say, "I was here. People noticed. I did what I did, and it made a positive difference. I mattered."

This is not self-absorption/narcissism/ego... This is living authentically...

We only get one shot at this...

There is so much possibility awaiting each of us that should not go to waste while we are here, living and breathing...

All we need to do is defeat the demons another day and get to work on what it is that truly makes us come alive...

Then we can make a difference, and, with any luck, make this place just a little bit better than it was before we came...

Let's do this.
