All too often, we find ourselves breaking off from friends and family, telling ourselves “I don’t need that person in my life” in the heat of the moment…

We get so ultra-focused on “dealbreaker” instances, that we forget the big picture that no two people think the same, and if you go deeply enough with anyone, you’re likely to find “dealbreaker” elements to any person’s belief system...

And the more “us and them”-minded people get, the more they look at “the other side" in the worst possible light, while looking at the ones “on their side” with rose-colored glasses; regardless of the fact that we are all flawed human beings in some way or another...

Even on the side of righteousness, people far too often react negatively to "the other side", rather than implementing more positive, reasoned strategies which actually move towards solving the problem...

This is how we stay divided.

And choosing the insular anonymity of social media, rather than face-to-face (or at least voice-to-voice) discussion only serves to exacerbate the problem and assure that the divide runs an ever-increasing risk of growing to the point of no return...

People like the character in this story love this...

True peace is not what such a person is interested in; his kind thrives on dissension and having an “other” to forever be at war with...

Like all demagogues who rise to power, all he has to do is keep convincing people to join his cause of “us vs. them is a good thing” until his followers reach a critical mass of numbers, and war between “us and them” becomes a viable reality for his movement...

And so, in order to avert this crisis, the good people who see the bigger picture need to be the bigger people…

Will they?
