The Widetrack Chronicles 100:
Zach’s Journey: From Widetrack to Berklee and Beyond
Every great story has a call to adventure.
For Zach, that call came through years of shared rehearsals, home recordings, and long drives to gigs; not just as a musician, but as a son, a collaborator, and a creative partner in the unfolding story of Widetrack. What began as father-son jam sessions evolved into something far deeper: a profound musical bond, tested and strengthened through the fire of live performance and studio craftsmanship.
Now, Zach is answering the next call; one that takes him beyond the comforts of home and into the heart of Boston, Massachusetts, where he’s attending Berklee College of Music.
Berklee is no ordinary music school. It’s a crucible of creative energy, where passionate artists from around the world gather to push boundaries, challenge norms, and discover their true voice. For Zach, it’s a proving ground; not only to refine his technical musical skills, but to immerse himself in the deep ocean of musical language, collaboration, and self-discovery.
In mythic terms, this is his hero’s journey. Leaving the familiar behind, he steps into the unknown; armed with passion, curiosity, and the foundation we built together. The “road of trials” may include late-night practice sessions, creative block, plateau frustrations, and that relentless pursuit of the perfection. But like all journeys worth taking, the reward isn’t just mastery; it’s transformation.

And Widetrack continues, even in his absence.
Zach’s evolution is not a departure from our story; it’s an expansion of it. Every chord he learns, every arrangement he writes, every musician he collaborates with becomes part of the living DNA of our band. We’ve always envisioned Widetrack as more than a group; it’s a lifelong creative dialogue between us, a father and son growing both musically and personally through the years.
The songs we’ve written together are chapters of our shared narrative. But the ones yet to come? Those will be written with the insight, experience, and depth Zach will gain on this path.
We’re inspired beyond words, because Zach’s journey is a reminder that music is not just about sound. It’s about answering the call to become who you are.
So here’s to the journey... not just his, but all of ours.
And the best part? The story’s still being written...
While Zach embarks on his Berklee chapter, I’ve found myself reflecting on my own role in this evolving story; not just as a father or a bandmate, but as an artist navigating his own path.
In the quiet spaces left by Zach’s absence, I’ve been diving deeper into the well of creativity... revisiting unfinished songs, exploring new lyrical ideas, and experimenting with approaches that push me out of familiar territory. There’s a different kind of energy now, one that comes from solitude, reflection, and the desire to grow in parallel rather than in tandem.
This season has become an unexpected opportunity to refine my own voice... to sharpen the emotional edge of our songwriting, explore new production techniques, and reconnect with the core “why” behind Widetrack. I’ve been journaling more, listening widely, and letting myself be a student again; of music, of storytelling, of life.
Not just simply waiting, but preparing... Feeding the fire... Honoring the process...

Because when Zach returns with new tools, new perspectives, and a new creative fire, I want to meet him there; not as someone who stood still, but as someone who grew alongside him, in his own way.
Our musical bond has always thrived on mutual challenge and inspiration. This chapter is no different; it’s just written in different cities, along different paths. But the destination is shared.
And I have a feeling the next Widetrack album will reflect that in ways we can’t yet imagine.
So we’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead... both for Zach at Berklee and for the next evolution of Widetrack. This journey is unfolding in real time, and we’d love to have you along for the ride.
